The Inside Story: Michael J. Evans

Long-time PARMA artist Michael J. Evans who has released MISERY, EIDOLA, and CIPHER, to name a few, is a D.C. based composer of orchestral, chamber, and solo instruments. Evans is our next featured artist for the ‘Inside Story,’ a blog series exploring what makes out artists tick. Read on and get to know them!

When did you realize that you wanted to be an artist/composer/creator?

It’s funny, I think I always wanted to write music.  I remember checking out this children’s book about Mozart from the library in school, over and over. The first time it ever hit me consciously was when I was in elementary school and our music teacher played “The Banshee” by Henry Cowell. I remember hearing that piece and being so shocked that it was a piano making those sounds, and I wanted to be able to write music and do that too.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Naps! I LOVE naps. One of my favorite things to do is take a long nap after lunch.  When I’m not at my day job, I usually try to get a 90 min. nap in. When I have to do my day job, I still come home for lunch and grab a 10 to 15 min. one.

If you weren’t a composer/performer, what would you be?

Probably a chef, more specifically, a pastry chef. I love cooking and am a real foodie. In fact, this past December I went on a baking binge and baked cookies for the whole block.

In the event of a zombie apocalypse, what are the three things you absolutely can’t live without?

Good Coffee

Dark Chocolate

And, since it is a zombie apocalypse, so doing any kind of actual work seems sort of pointless I would want an endless supply of [something really good currently seeking legalization].
