We are excited to announce that composer Kamyar Mohajer is joining the PARMA family!
This January we’ll be making our way across the country to record Kamyar’s debut album of his original compositions in California. The album includes five new chamber works with performances from The Alexander String Quartet, the International Contemporary Ensemble, and more.
The pieces, blending Western tonal systems and the rich melodic structures of Eastern music, are reflective of Kamyar’s own journey from Iran, to Canada, to the US. Kamyar says,“My upbringing inspires me to blend the melodies I heard as a child with my love for Western polyphony.”
His compositional education has included studies with Behzad Ranjbaran, as well as with award-winning Stanford composer Giancarlo Aquilanti. Mohajer earned a BFA in music from York University in Toronto where he studied piano with Christina Petrowska-Quilico and Antonin Kubalek.
The full album will be released in 2018 but if you want to get a sneak peak of Kamyar’s music you can check out his YouTube channel:
Keep an eye out for new information, updates, concert announcements, and more. Welcome, Kamyar!
