New PARMA Artist: Emma-Ruth Richards

We are so excited to welcome composer Emma-Ruth Richards to the PARMA Family!

We will be working with Emma-Ruth on the recording, release, and performance of her piece “Dark Radiance” for solo cello. The work will be recorded by long time PARMA artist Ovidiu Marinescu and later performed in concert with Trio Casals at Carnegie Hall.

“Dark Radiance” received its debut performance this past May by cellist Tim Gill of the London Sinfonietta.

Emma-Ruth attended Cardiff University and the Royal Northern College of Music. She has studied with composers including Alexander Goehr, Colin Matthews, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies,  and Oliver Knussen.

Her numerous commissions include works for Colin Currie, Opera North, The Absolution Saxophone Quartet, and the London Philharmonia along with many others.  Emma-Ruth is an awarding winning composer featured in many festivals including  International Kamermuziekfestival Den Haag, Sound Scotland, and Queen’s Belfast.

Performed by Musiques Nouvelles Emma-Ruth’s piece ‘La Douleur Exquise’ was presented to much acclaim at the 2015 ‘Tactus Forum for Young Composers in Belgium.

2017 marks the premiere of several new commissions including a new work for chamber orchestra for the Britten Sinfonia,  the Two Worlds CD release of ‘You Cannot Fold a Flood‘, and a showcase of her new opera ‘Traffick‘.
