Who was your first favorite artist growing up?

I don’t exactly remember who my first favorite artist was, but I do have favorites of all time; Kreisler and Szigeti. I like them for very different reasons; I admire Kreisler for playing with such ease and grace and Szigeti for his penetrating sound and insight.

When did you realize that you wanted to be an artist?

I was five when I saw a violin for the first time, and I was instantly drawn to it. I was always a very shy girl who even became very nervous when saying “yes” at taking attendance. However, strangely enough,  when I played the violin in front of many people, it did not bother me at all. I think it became my voice from then.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Eating absolutely. I can often go on a binge and easily finish a large pizza by myself.

If you weren’t a performer, what would you be?

I think I could have made it as a journalist. Since I was little, I liked writing especially when I had to depict something. I can never write poems or anything too sentimental but easily do a matter of fact description.

Moonkyung Lee’s Navona Records album TCHAIKOVSKY is available Friday, February 10th on Amazon, iTunes, and ArkivMusic. Pre-order now.
